100% Old Vine Garnacha. These old vines held up exceptionally well in the heat of August and the 2019 vintage can be characterised by its combination of very fresh acidity, ripe exotic fruit, flowers and a long saline finish. Drinking 2022 and onwards for many years. 14.5% alc.
The 2020 vintage is the first vintage where this wine has come solely from our Armantes vineyards: contiguous parcels planted between 1937 and 1942 situated at around 800m above sea level. We find that Garnacha on these marl and limestone soils gives more exotic & ethereal elements and impart a precise and floral profile to the Garnacha grape with marked acidity and a low pH. Austere during fermentation and ageing but very rewarding with age.

El Cismático is part of our range celebrating the colourful life of Aragonese nobleman, Pedro de Luna, once Pope Benedict XIII in Avignon, later declared Antipope. He was declared a schismatic in 1417, hence the name of this wine.
Interestingly, Saint Andrews University in Scotland was founded by papal bulls issued by Papa Luna and the Scottish Crown recognised him as the Pope until his death.
