A label that serves as a somewhat cheeky tribute to the number of speeding tickets Norrel racked up during his early years in Spain. He spent countless hours driving to his projects across Spain and France, always eager to get back home as quickly as possible to be with his family. Unfortunately, that meant driving faster than allowed—and receiving several fines, the first one just 45 minutes after arriving on Spanish soil in 2003! After spending so much money on tickets, he thought it would be fun to recoup some of it with a wine called La Multa (“The Fine”). The label is designed to resemble an official document.
We produce this wine in the Rías Baixas DO. THE CUP & RINGS is a prehistoric symbol carved into the granite stones found in the Albariño vineyards of Rías Baixas, but also in Scotland, Norrel’s homeland. He first discovered this symbol during a visit to the museum in his hometown. These symbols were likely brought by the Celts from Galicia to the British Isles thousands of years ago and represent a form of reverence toward those two elements. As a true Scotsman, Norrel feels a deep connection to Galicia and its lush green meadows, and naturally felt drawn to craft a wine from the native Albariño variety. This wine, The Cup and Rings Albariño, is his way of paying tribute to his Celtic ancestors.
