Discover Spain: top scoring wines for El Escoces Volante

Two wines from El Escocés Volante were among the highest-scoring wines in the Discover Spain 2026 Special Report by Tim Atkin MW and Beth Willard, each receiving a whopping 96 points.

This year, we submitted four wines for tasting, all of which were assessed by Tim and Beth. We are absolutely delighted with the results, which you can see below.

Mataquemada, one of our old vine Garnacha field blends has again got a very high score as has our Manda Huevos old vine Macabeo. In a departure from the norm here in Aragon in terms of grape varieties, we also produce an old vine Provechón (also known as Bobal) and a Garnacha Gris and it was great to see them both reviewed and achieving great scores. All of these wines are single vineyard, small batch productions, dry grown and organically farmed (certification coming in 2028, hopefully).

Beyond the scores themselves, their tasting notes are insightful, detailed and beautifully written, offering consumers a real understanding of each wine’s character and sense of place.

Our sincere thanks to Tim and Beth for the enormous dedication involved in tasting hundreds of wines from across Spain and for continuing to champion the full diversity and quality of Spanish wine. and of course, its great to see our mountain garnachas doing so well.
