We are incredibly fortunate to live on one of Europe’s major migration routes for cranes. We see them before we hear them – flying above our house in the the first clip, before heading on to Lake Gallocanta, a major watering hole for them on their journey between Sweden and North Africa in Spring and Autumn. Our Swedish importer tells us that their return to Sweden is big news there, with news channels reporting on the first sightings in Spring. Around 30,000 birds stop at the lake every year.
If you’re in the area, it’s well worth a visit to the lake, near Daroca. However, unfortunately, this year the visitor centre and viewing installations have been closed due to an outbreak of bird flu with around 250 birds found dead a couple of weeks ago.
