Norrel Robertson’s Mazuelo reviewed by Sarah Jane Evans MW for Decanter Magazine

It’s a great pleasure to see our Mazuelo included in Sarah Jane Evans MW’s Top 20 Cariñena Buys in the latest edition of Decanter Magazine. (subscription necessary)

In this instance Sarah was not talking about the wine producing area of Cariñena but rather the grape variety, which is also known as Carignan, Mazuelo and Mazuela.

El Escocés Volante, Parcelas Singulares Mazuelo, Aragón 2018 94

“£27.50 Alliance Wine, Philglas & Swiggot
Norrel Robertson MW’s Mazuelo comes from a 0.9ha plot of bush vines planted at 750m in 1994 into red clay, limestone and glacial stones. Fermented in open-top vats with some whole bunch, then aged for 12 months in Flextank eggs.
Promisingly aromatic: light citrus and opulent red-fruit notes. Silky entry, blossoms to supple red fruit and crunchy citrus freshness. Rises to a pure, lightly chalky finish with warming alcohol. Drink 2021-2024 Alc 14%”

Sarah Jane Evans MW is an awarded wine writer and author with a particular focus on Spain. She is the current Chair of Spain’s Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino, and a Decanter World Wine Awards Co-Chair.
