Hello 2021!

Hello all and Happy New Year!

Like many of you, we have had quite a surreal start to 2021.

We started the year on a very positive note, with training in pruning techniques from Julio Prieto. We were able to learn from his vast experience about how good pruning techniques can prolong the life of a vine and the different approaches needed according to the training method (in our case whether the vine is en vaso or in eje vertical.) Many thanks Julio for the insight.  Check out his website and YouTube channel.

Our international team (Niclas from Denmark, Ruben from Spain and James from Scotland) was able to put their newly developed skills into practice for only a few days when Storm Filomena brought us the most snowfall and the lowest temperatures to be seen here in more than 50 years. Temperatures fell as low as -18 degrees C in some of the villages and remained extremely low for a number of days. Many homes in Calatayud were left without water for over a week. However, we’re glad to report that our team has now managed to resume their work. And whilst Filomena has caused huge disruption, she has also left us with some amazing, maybe never to be repeated, images of the vineyards under snow. Many thanks to photographer Jorge Miret for these!
